This has been a restful quarter, but there are some things coming up in the next one at the end of the year. Despite striving to plan to create things it has been better to go at the pace of energy and thought. I haven't forced myself to practice or create. Instead I have engaged with music as inspiration or curiosity compelled me to. I am still working within the space of lack and nothingness, a silent mind free of pressure of perfectionism and the constraint of someone elses idea of what is good. Anything I've created has no title. When working in a space without language it is difficult to name anything, and numbers don't seem to fit either for they too create a hierarchy.
Maybe my heart is not in it after Nadia passed. She always sat with me to create music or would watch from somewhere in the room, entering once sound was made. The music I made while she was here is still to be posted. The next collection, named fragments, will be out in December. I'll speak more on that later. For now, The Mountain Told Me To Live has been out for a month. To the few of you that have heard it or shared thoughts in its creative process, thank you and I hope it has been fruitful.
Looking back on that album, I see different interpretations of the content, and maybe my intended meaning doesn't apply to some. That can be a beautiful thing as long as the content isn't misconstrued to be something hurtful or cause feelings of depression to deepen. Either way, I and a few others will be looking into interpretation at Wichita NAMI's Where Art Listens event in November. I will speak a few words and then we have visual artists and poets to engage with the same themes and concepts showing the intersection of art and mental health based around The Mountain Told Me To Live.
I guess it is a short one today. Stay cool in this summer heat and may some unexpected joy find its way to you, like a birdsong or the sunlight on the grass in the morning. Many sunsets to go. Be kind to each other.
